MONARCHS The Toronto Entomologist’s Association arranges a permit with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources for their members to rescue caterpillars to raise Monarch butterflies. As a record of this process, single images were captured of the metamorphosis from the caterpillar to the Monarch butterfly stage. These images were then processed as an audio-visual show using the software, Proshow Producer to resemble time-lapse photography. The audio visual show A New Beginning depicts the story of the work I do as a gardener to help the Monarch Butterfly survive. You may view the show on the following websites: To view in the best resolution go to: http://www.photodex.com/share/thelmabeaubien. The first time you play the audio visual show on this site, you will be asked to download a ‘Presenter’ file. This is quick and easy to do. Another site to view but with smaller images and at lower resolution go to: http://www.youtube.com/user/kwgardengirl/videos Comments from a viewer of A New Beginning: “Thanks so much for sharing your AV shows with us. GREAT photography (patience and hard work too), Thelma! You've really brought the transformations of the monarch butterfly to life. The great detail and slow speed let us visually drink it all in and realize even more vividly through this example, the awesome beauty, complexity, fragility, power and creative force of nature. As you suggested, I'm going to forward your message to our neighbours' children and my grandnieces and grandnephews. I know they'll be delighted and captivated. I'll bet the KWFN Young Naturalists would love to see your work, too."
I also enjoyed your "Butterflies by the dozens". The two works complement one another so well.
Congratulations too on your absolutely captivatingly beautiful garden!” Su M.
